Mt. Sherman, A Colorado "14er"

Mt. Sherman

At 14,036 feet in altitude, Mt. Sherman is one of 54 "14ers" in Colorado. It is located in the Mosquito Range west of Fairplay and Alma and east of Leadville. The photo above shows the view of Mt. Sheridan (left) and Mt. Sherman (right) from Park County Road 18 near Leavick.

Mt. Sherman is a fantastic mountain to climb for beginners. While by no means easy (and in fact, the winds on its southern ridge can be quite strong), Mt. Sherman is rated as a comparatively "easy" 14er hike. When friends or guests are in town, I usually suggest climbing Mt. Sherman ... and it's always a good excuse to go along with them! :)

The most common route to Mt. Sherman's summit is from Leavick, although a small number climb via an alternative route from Iowa Gulch. Below are photo collections and trip reports in the right column below. When I see an interesting Mt. Sherman trip report, I will update this page.

All the best, Steve
